we don’t find each other by rules, horses dried up by sun
allow us to float over the city
and you, grass, and you, mountain, stricken too soon
by a gaze poisoned at the tip
you are rinsing our words: childhood grabs you by the hair
to see birds withier beaks stuck in the sky
and wings crushed by darkness.
a heart levitating to power stretches your arteries
and unleashes in alveoli the echo
of the first vanished friend
you’re covering me with the skin I’ve been born with.
you know how to do this
because you’ve seen the angel and have not betrayed him.
the dog chasing us has yelped
and stopped. the rocks hollowed by wind
are stringing us through them
like a chain through the cross.
